I'm Jo and I'm the owner of Cavalier Cottage, offering home dog-boarding for Cavaliers. My aim is to provide the highest level of care for our Cavalier guests while providing peace of mind for their owners. I only look after dogs from one household at any one time, and I specialise in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Your Cavalier deserves to be treated like a king (or queen)!

Together with my husband Richard, I have had the privilege of owning Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for over 15 years and am obsessed with them! All our Cavaliers have been rescue dogs, so I am used to dealing with shy and anxious dogs. I am dog first aid-trained, insured, and have a 5-star licence issued by Chichester District Council.

I provide personalised home dog boarding for your Cavalier in my own home. I work from home full-time, so your pooch will rarely be left alone. We are a child-free, smoke-free and cat-free home and live in a peaceful rural location with direct access to countryside walks. We enjoy daily walks, playing in our secure garden and optional off-lead exercise in a private dog park. Plus snoozing and cuddles of course!

Tizzy is a ruby cross and came to us from Many Tears Animal Rescue. She loves chasing rabbits and shouting at squirrels. 🐶

Also a rescue, Betty is a tricolour who loves eating and snuggling on the sofa. 🐶

Raffles, a Shepherd-cross, was our first dog. She was a stray on the streets of Singapore and we flew her back home with us. She could play frisbee for hours! 🐶

Frosty was our first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He had been used for breeding and we rescued him at the age of five. Frosty started our love affair with cavs! 🐶

Lola was the boldest and happiest little dog, despite also being a rescue. Always ready with a wag and lick for anyone she met. 🐶
Please reach us at cavaliercottage@yahoo.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We love the breed and are familiar with their foibles and health conditions. We have two resident Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, who always enjoy meeting other Cavaliers. We find that Cavaliers have a similar temperament, are usually of a sweet and gentle nature and are of a similar size, making for a harmonious homestay. We are also open to boarding Cavalier crosses.
Sorry, we specialise in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. If you own a Cavalier as well as another small dog, please contact us so we can discuss.
Our office hours are Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
We offer pet boarding for your dog in our own home, including feeding, walking, playing, exercise, cuddles and managing medication as necessary.
Yes, we require all pets to be up to date on their vaccinations for their safety and the safety of our own dogs.
Sorry, all dogs are limited to the downstairs of our house. Please bring your dog's bed with you so they have somewhere familiar to snooze. They are welcome to join us on the sofa for cuddles, though!
Sorry, only house-trained dogs are accepted at Cavalier Cottage, although of course we expect the occasional accident!
Sorry, only neutered/spayed dogs are accepted at Cavalier Cottage.
Please send an email to cavaliercottage@yahoo.com to check availability.

We have used Jo many times for our cavapoo Mollie. when we have gone on holiday for 10+ nights or away for the weekend etc and she is truly one in a million! When you have dogs they become your babies and part of your family and it means so much to have someone who you can genuinely trust. Jo looks after Mollie as one of her own (Tizzy and Betty are absolutely gorgeous too by the way) I truly never worry about Mollie when she is in Jo’s care. We get lovely updates, they go out for the most amazing walks and have so much fun. Jo truly listens and understands everything about Mollie. 10/10 from us!"

"Harry loves coming to stay, he doesn’t even bark when he watches me leave. You look after him so well with his hip dysplasia and medication, he came back limping less. He loves having laps to sit on, even in the summer heat and it really is a home from home for him. I can tell he’s genuinely happy to go on his holiday to you."

“Me and my Husband Freddie were very reluctant to have someone we didn't know look after our two girls whilst we were away. As soon as we met Jo and Richard we knew instantly that they were going to be great with our girls! We left feeling very positive and then when we saw their home and the surroundings we were even happier! The space is lovely for the girls to explore and we loved knowing that they had Tizzy and Betty to interact with as well.
Whilst we were on holiday we received regular updates and photos from Jo which put our minds at ease.
Jo and Richard are a very friendly, welcoming couple who we trust 100% with Dottie and Penny - we can't wait to use them again when we go on holiday next year and would definitely recommend them to anyone! As soon as I found the Cavalier Cottage online, I loved the concept and feel very lucky that we've found a boarder for life. ❤️”

So my experience with Jo has been faultless. Milo is basically my heart. Before Jo I only ever left him with family and not often. However life changes and I found I needed somebody. From the start I have felt 100% happy. Before committing to a stay Jo organised for us and her pups to meet in a secure paddock and then we planned each next step from there. All to ensure that both Milo and I were happy. Jo’s house is so lovely and so pup friendly. Milo was totally fine being left and I loved the photos of him having fun days out.
I home cook for Milo and he’s on medication for MVD which Jo took in her stride and gave plenty of time to understand his regime. He was a happy boy after his two week stay, I felt no qualms in booking him in again for his next luxury holiday with Jo and the gang. I am so very grateful 💖💖 a holiday with peace of mind is priceless xxx"

The process from initial contact, to a meet and greet, form filling about likes/dislikes and trial sleepover was nothing but professional so we felt our boy was in capable hands. Jo clearly has a passion for dogs, particularly cavvys and she treats ours like her own when he’s there, though is flexible to each dog’s needs. We were anxious about leaving him for the first time and so she kept us up to date with how he was settling, with photos and videos too. Nothing was too much trouble and her kindness and warmth was felt by our dog as he absolutely loves her. He quickly felt comfortable in her house and around her own dogs too. It’s so reassuring to know we have someone we can trust and call on when we need to.”

“My dog Willow has the time of her life at Cavalier Cottage. It's a great location for dogs, with a big garden and trails for walks. We bring Willow all the way from Scotland to board and she always gets the one-on-one love, care, and attention she needs. I can take 2 weeks' holiday, knowing my furry baby is well looked after.

Jo has 2 lovey resident dogs; Willow gets on with them like a house on fire. Jo gave us a great virtual tour of her home before Willow boarded the 1st time. She always checks before taking any decisions about Willow, she sends wonderful 'pup dates' while I'm away and she goes to the trouble of preparing her special meals.
You won't find a better home for your dog while you are away.”

“We were looking for a home from home for our girls. One of our dogs Heidi is scared of big breeds so we have always struggled in the past with other dog sitters who care for multiple dogs. We love the fact that Jo only has our dogs with her two beautiful girls in her home. They all get on well together and we appreciated the meet and greet to ensure the dynamics worked before Jo agreed to trial an overnight. Thankfully this proved successful.
Cavalier cottage is set in the most idyllic location with perfect dog walking opportunities right on the doorstep.
Ruby and Heidi bring their own beds and toys. Jo even stitched Heidi’s bed back together after she decided to rip it apart one day. I’m not sure many sitters would do that! We get regular updates whilst we are away and I can holiday in peace knowing my dogs are treated like family.”
